What's Expected of Me?

As a Rotary Youth Exchange student, you will be an ambassador for yourself, your family, Australia and Rotary.

You will have to attend school full time. This is not a full time holiday.

Because of visa, tax and insurance issues, you cannot work while you are overseas.

Rotary has some basic rules which are designed to keep you safe and well for the entire year:

  • No driving of motorised vehicles
  • No drinking of alcohol (unless your Host District says it is ok)
  • No illegal drugs
  • No serious romantic relationships

You will have to attend occasional Rotary functions. How many will depend on your Host Club and Host District. In District 9710, our exchange students get together at 4 or 5 times during the year.

You will be expected to help your host families with housework and chores, you live in home environments, so you need to pull your weight.

To have a fun and rewarding experience overseas!!

We do need your help!

Part of your committment is to help Australian Club's meet an expectation to host inbound (i.e. overseas) students as part of this exchange process. To do that, we and your home Rotary Club will need your help to identify any families who can be approached to host an inbound student for a 3-4 month period, typically August-November, December-March or April-July. Your home Rotary Club will supply the other host family/ies for that inbound student.
